California Vacation Rentals – California Travel
California is a majestic state steeped in culture and history. Visit here and you can have a city, beach, country or mountain vacation. From the Battery Point Lighthouse in Crescent City to the Paramount Theatre in Oakland, from the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco to Disneyland in Southern California, there truly is something for everyone in the Golden State.
Southern California
Southern California offers a bevy of interesting and diverse activities. You can visit the Desert, Orange County or Los Angeles County.
In the Los Angeles region, consider taking a movie or television tour, or visit Chinatown. Head for Hollywood and visit the world-famous Sunset Boulevard, a 20-mile long stretch you can either drive or (partly) walk. Head to Catalina Island and the Casino Point Underwater Park, where you can scuba dive or snorkel and probe the underwater shipwrecks. Listen to and see live music like classical, rock or jazz under the stars at the Hollywood Bowl, or get cultural at the Japanese American Cultural Center.
In Orange County, visit the original Disney park, Disneyland. At Crystal Cove State Park, you can enjoy a wide variety of beach, surf, hiking and horseback activities, or enjoy whitewater rapids at Knott's Berry Farm.
Head outward for a visit to the desert, where there are shiny cities like Palm Springs set against the beauty and solitude of sand dunes and cliffs that have eroded over time.
Head further south and visit the Inland Empire Region, which is home to the California Citrus State Historic Park, which details the history of the California citrus industry. In LaVerne, visit the Route 66 Territory Gift Shop or visit the Historical Glass Museum in Redlands for a look at centuries worth of glass. Big Bear Lake is popular here, offering a variety of activities including golf, snowboarding and skiing.
In the San Diego area, you can visit the world famous San Diego Zoo, or head for a casino for a little gaming action. There are more than eight casinos in the San Diego region. In North San Diego County, you can take a visit to the largest mission in California, Mission San Luis Ray, which was built in 1798. Here, you can tour the grounds and church of the Franciscan Friars of California.
Central Valley
The Central Valley highlights its history in agriculture with many food factory tours, while the San Joaquin County Historical Museum highlights the area's history with a Native American Yokuts display. Head to the top of Mt. Whitney, which is the highest point in the continental United States, or enjoy the year round beauty of Lake Tahoe. For the beauty of the sea and relaxation of resorts, visit the Central Coast, where there is a great deal of specialty shopping and world-famous dining on Monterey's Cannery Row. In Sacramento, visit the 1874 State Capitol building, or head down Highway 49 and learn about the history of the California gold miners.
Northern and Central California
This large area of California encompasses the Gold Country, the High Sierra, the Bay Area and San Francisco, the North Coast and the Shasta Cascade.
In San Jose, understand the city's technological significance by visiting the city's Tech Museum of Innovation, which features science and engineering exhibits.
Leave your heart in San Francisco, either by traveling the city via cable car, or enjoying its quiet splendor from an Angel Island lookout. From there, a short drive takes you to the Napa Valley region, famous for its fine wines and great beauty. A one-day trip will take you on a tour of Muir Woods to see redwoods and wine country. In the Shasta region, you can water ski on Shasta Lake or view lava tubes.
In the high north area of California, the Six Rivers National Forest in Orleans offers camping, fishing and hiking, while the beauty of the area is highlighted in redwood tree forests like Stake Park and the Redwood National Forest in Crescent City.
