Arizona Vacation Rentals – Arizona Travel

For a vacation unmatched in beauty and awe-inspiring sites, consider a getaway to Arizona. Full of natural wonder and relaxing activities, Arizona is a top pick among vacation goers.

Top among the list of things to see in Arizona is the Grand Canyon, but there are other highlights including Route 66, Copper Creek, and tours of the Rainbow Bridge Monument at Lake Powell.

Central Arizona

For a mix of activities and things to see, start in the central region, which features metropolitan areas as well as lots of outdoor beauty. To get a true feel for the dichotomy that is Arizona, visit Phoenix, which embodies both the rugged outdoors and city chic. Part of the Sonoran Desert region, Phoenix features Camelback Mountain, a hiker favorite and also the highest point in Phoenix. For metropolitan chic, visit either the Heard Museum, which specializes in regional Native American Art or the Phoenix Art Museum, which displays world art from many centuries ago to today.

Scottsdale -- just outside of Phoenix -- is a big on golfing and is also home to the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show. 'Foodies' will enjoy Scottsdale, which is home to more than 600 restaurants of varying cuisines.

The East Valley area melds old-west flavor with high tech modernity, while the Superstition Mountain Wilderness Area features the legendary Weaver's Needle Landmark.

Tucson

In Tucson, enjoy the five mountain ranges which bring on gorgeous sunsets at the end of the busy Tucson day.

Here, you can visit an archeology dig site for the first settlement of the area. It's located at the base of Sentinel Peak, just at the fringe of the downtown area.

The Kitt Peak National Observatory contains the world's largest collection of optical telescopes, while also offering tours and stargazing nightly. Living exhibits of flora and fauna are featured at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, while golfers might enjoy all that the courses have to offer. Here, you can find more than 30 different golf courses; two major tournaments from the PGA and LPGA are held here.

Don't forget a spa treatment! Tucson is thought to be one of the top spa destinations in the world, with a variety of techniques offered, from Native American to ancient Oriental.

Northern Arizona

In Northern Arizona, don't miss the famous and beautiful Sedona, which is known in the arts and entertainment industries worldwide for its red sandstone canyon formations. Be sure to visit Sedona's Spanish Colonial-style Tiaquipague, featuring stores, restaurants and galleries.

Flagstaff's high elevation status can provide a break from high temperatures and its temperate weather makes this a great place for mountain biking in summer and snowboarding at Mt. Humphrey's Snowbowl Ski Resort in winter. At the Pioneer Museum, the Museum of Northern Arizona and the Riordan Mansion State Historic Park, Flagstaff celebrates its amazing geology and frontier heritage.

You might enjoy a visit to the man-made Lake Mead area for water sports, as well as camping and fishing. The Grand Canyon takes up a large portion of this Northern Arizona region.

Grand Beauty

To enjoy the great wonder of the Great Canyon, visit the Northwest part of Arizona. There, you can visit the breathtaking Grand Canyon cut through by the Colorado River. The most beautiful and most visited part of the Grand Canyon is a National Park, while all of the Canyon lends itself to enjoying the varied colors, plateaus, mesas, buttes and valleys of this natural wonder. For more beauty, visit Montezuma Castle (an Indian Cliff dwelling) and Wupatki, which is located on the edge of the Painted Desert and is a site featuring a number of Indian ruins. Take a trip to the Petrified Forest, which features beautiful -- and unexpected -- color on the logs, or visit the Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument, which has several very impressive cones formed from igneous activity.

Go Golfing

With all it's natural beauty, it's no wonder Arizona is a golf mecca. There are more than 300 golf courses throughout the state with a range of challenges. In Scottsdale, the TPC offers two courses -- the Desert and Stadium. The PGA tour makes a stop at the beautiful Stadium course, which is lined with Arizona's state flowers, saguaro cacti and mesquite trees. The Desert course is also considered very challenging. The Wildfire Golf Club -- part designed by Arnold Palmer -- requires target-style golfing techniques and features a desert-style layout. Local golfers suggest this course is harder than its ratings suggest.

Some other sites to see include: Walnut Canyon National Monument; The Apache Trail; Kofa National Wildlife Refuge; Canyon De Chelley National Monument; Pine Spring National Monument; Alamo Lake State Park; Bartlett Reservoir; Lees Ferry; Sycamore Canyon; Bill Williams River; and Casa Grande Ruins National Monument.
